Oxford North application deferred

A decision on the Oxford North planning application has been deferred by the city council's west area planning committee.
Councillors at the September 24 meeting, held specifically to discuss Oxford North, wanted further information about the affordable homes proportion and developer Thomas White Oxford (TWO) issued a statement afterwards.
It said: “TWO notes the deferral of its planning application for Oxford North. TWO will continue to work with Oxford City Council’s planning officers to provide any information that is required to ensure that Oxford North can return to committee at the soonest possible date.”
Along with 87,000 sq m of workspace and 480 homes, the development will have a hotel with up to 180 rooms and 23 acres of open spaces including three new parks. It is expected to create 4,500 jobs and is forecast to add £150m a year in gross value to the economy.
The scheme's affordable housing quota has long been a major sticking point. After lengthy discussions between the applicant and council officers, the scheme was recommended for approval ahead of the meeting.
No date has been set for a new meeting.
